SPOTLIGHTING ALUMNI

1. What are you currently studying and where?

I am currently double majoring in psychology and justice studies at Montclair State
University in the United States.

The biggest cultural difference I have noticed in the US is the diversity and acceptance of many different opportunities that are not as available in the Southern European region. Additionally, I find it fascinating how students can pursue any ambition and have high chances of success. In essence, the country provides opportunities that motivate students to remain ambitious. As for academic differences, the curriculum is the same, however, US universities are very firm on discipline and work ethic in contrast to European universities/high-schools that value the portrayal of knowledge in the student’s own unique manner.

One important aspect from ASM that prepared me for my transition in life and studies is
the way professors placed a strong emphasis on expressing oneself and boosting self-
esteem. I noticed that each professor taught their class in a different way, therefore, utilizing different strategies to ensure the students have received and are confident with
the knowledge received.

I believe that I mostly miss the atmosphere and simplicity that came with my years in ASM. It truly was a different time and a crucial one for the development of my personality and education, therefore being surrounded by the support that ASM provides, I was able to become the person I am today.

Advice I would give current ASM students is to continue persevering in their studies
because ASM provides the base of a bright and fruitful future.

If someone considering joining were to ask me to describe ASM, I would say that it is both a school and family. After spending ample time with professors and other students, I built a form of closeness and friendship that will last a lifetime. ASM is truly invested in the knowledge and education of other students and moreover getting to know every student on an individual level.

I return to ASM every summer after my semester ends for many reasons. First and foremost, I made a promise to my principal to always give ASM a visit and remember where I spent the majority of my adolescent years. Furthermore, I enjoy speaking to my former professors about advice, share goals I have completed during the academic year, and enjoy the nostalgia of their presence.
