Grass Growth Project
Project Based Learning (PBL) is a great way for students to critically think, problem solve, and see math differently.
For this project, the 9th graders planted seeds, grew grass, measured plot growth and found lines of fit.
They calculated slope and line of fit in real life. They learnt about interpolation on Mondays by estimating the height our grass was over the weekend and they learnt about extrapolation by using our lines of fit. We also brought ecology into the discussion by talking about limiting factors on the grass growth.
It was very interesting seeing how the students got attached to their little cups of grass.
See what our students did.
