SPOTLIGHTING ALUMNI
Biomedical Sciences at the University of Caen, France.
I enjoyed all of the classes at ASM. Even though I was more oriented towards the sciences and interested mostly in the science classes such as physics and chemistry, I enjoyed the classes in the social sciences and languages as well because the teachers had found a way to make them interesting for everyone.
Biomedical Sciences is a field that integrates biology, physics, chemistry and math. I have always been interested by these subjects and I wanted a career that will allow me to explore science from all aspects. My goal is to pursue a career in research and this field prepares you for a career in biomedical research and teaching, which I personally find fascinating. The teachers and classes at ASM were key to making this decision, they always motivated me to move forward and to explore these subjects extracurricularly. I can safely say that I was well prepared for university and that I received a quality education that was absolutely necessary in order to have a good start to my undergraduate studies.
The teachers at ASM were always ready and happy to help. I was met with a lot of encouragement and advice that ultimately helped me make my decisions. They challenged me with extra material for the subjects that I was interested in, which helped me prepare for different types of exams, as well as competitions. Even if the classes at ASM are small, I was able to meet a lot of interesting people and make friends from all around the world, which was a great experience.
The fact that the classes at ASM are small means that they are more interactive. They allow you to approach your teachers, so use that to your advantage and don’t be afraid to ask for help. Regarding your future studies, you should ideally start preparing in the 11th grade and have your choices narrowed down by the first semester of 12th grade. In that way, you will be more relaxed when the time to fill out your applications arrives.
Overall, I enjoyed my time at ASM and I am happy with how things finally turned out. If I had to do it again, I’d ask for more information regarding the universities that I was applying to. Applications can be challenging, but you don’t need to apply to lots of universities in order to find a field that you like and in order to increase your chances of getting accepted. It’s important to keep an open mind, do some research about your list of universities that you wish to apply to and not put pressure on yourself. You never know where you might wind up 🙂
