SPOTLIGHTING ALUMNI
1. Tell us a little about your current studies. What are you studying, where are you studying, and what do you enjoy most about it?
I am currently enrolled in Medical school at the UKIM University in Skopje. What I enjoy most about medical school is that I never feel as if I’m not pushing myself to be better. Every day is a new challenge and there is never a day where I don’t learn anything new. I enjoy the fact that I have the experience to learn from excellent doctors while also being close with my family and friends.
2. Looking back on your years at American School Macedonia, what are some of your favorite memories, and what made your experience here so special?
Even though I could list countless memories of partaking in different events organized by ASM for the entirety of the 12 years I was there, my favorite memories were all the times I was engaging in class discussions with my peers and teachers. The joy of being included, heard and appreciated for my opinion has built me into the curious and opinionated person I am today. To this very day I can vividly remember all the topics that were brought up and how through discussion we reached our own conclusions.
3. You were actively involved in many school activities, including serving as the director of the Christmas Show production in Grade 11. What did that experience teach you about leadership, teamwork, and responsibility?
In my opinion, to be given such a role as “director” definitely taught me to acclimate to different situations and personalities and learn how to overcome challenges while keeping a cool head. While writing the script of the Christmas show alongside my classmates, I had to make sure everyone was kept satisfied with the plot and amount of lines every actor had. When anyone had disagreed with the flow of any part of the show , it was my job to speak to them and make sure we came to some kind of resolution. The entire experience taught me to not put my goals and ideas of what everything should look like first, but leave room for everyone’s input.
4. Were there any teachers or experiences at ASM that had a lasting impact on you? If so, how did they influence your journey?
There were many teachers throughout the entirety of my schooling that guided me through different pivotal moments of my life. Teacher Lisa and Teacher Boba taught me to spell in kindergarten, Teacher Sandrine taught me to read in first grade, Teacher Emi taught me to multiply in third grade, Teacher Biljana taught me to write full essays in fourth grade. Once my skills had developed throughout my 8 years of middle school , I moved on to high school where I was taught to analyze any piece of literature logically and critically while also forming my own opinions that could differ from the general public’s. I learned to love Biology and Chemistry from Teacher Irina and began to think about what that entailed for my future.
5. Is there a single moment or experience from ASM that you can still picture clearly today? What made it so memorable?
One of my many favorite memories was when I was given an assignment to recreate a scene from Macbeth in a group with my two classmates. It was a very interesting way to be immersed in the world of Shakespeare while also being given creative freedom to interpret the scene however we wanted to . Now anytime I see anything related to the Three Witches of Macbeth, I think of our rookie interpretation.
